Preparation a must. Without
Preparation never attempt to speak. Arrange in your mind what you are going to say and go through them mentally many times over (you may practice by speaking in front of a mirror or a group of friends or family members) before coming to the stage. The golden rule number one: Do not come to any
stage without adequate preparation. (later when you have mastered the technique it may not matter. But in the initial stages it is a must that you follow the rule.) You will have to note down the main points you intend to cover. Of course there will have to an address, an introduction, ( which can be a personal anecdote, a quote, a small but interesting story--something that can catch the attention of the audience) a body of the
speech consisting of the main points and a conclusion. You arrange your speech in this format and write your speech highlighting the main points. Do not mug up the speech . With stage fright, whatever you have by hearted will simply be forgotten when you are in the staging facing a ‘hostile’ audience. Memory does not function well while you are in tension, remember. Try to feed into your memory the main points by linking them like a chain. You may use the tips given in my articles on memory to do this. Once you have put into your memory the speech, try to
speak the speech in front of a mirror or friends and see how you deliver. If some points do not come forth, go through your notes and rememorize them again. Speak again to the group and continue doing so until you feel confident. Still you may have stage
fright when you rise to speak and we will see how to tackle
