So-called religious leaders have since long poisoned the mind of people in many ways, one of which is that God is a
judge sitting on a throne ready to judge our actions. There is no bigger lie than this. In so doing, a sense of great separation and fear is created between
man and his Creator. More so, there is the birth of inferiority and superiority in this ugly idea of God as a judge. If He stands there ready to decide our
actions by His judgement, then the question arises: what is called freedom?
The truth is that we are our own judge. Each
action has its own reaction: this is the Law of Action and Reaction and is very scientific. If we live according to the laws of existence without creating unnecessary trouble to the perfect harmony of Nature, we have
joy and if we continue to live in this way, we will finally attain infinite joy. On the other hand, if we disturb the symphony of the Divine, then we attract suffering and this may go on forever if we are not ready to mend our way. The very moment we do an action, we have already sowed a reaction for a future or the same life. Therefore we can decide what kind of life shall we have in the future, because remember that the tree of the future is planted in the present by our actions. Similarly, our present is the consequence of some past in which we sowed the seed of the present time. We enjoy the fruit of our own action. From this angle, man is the builder of his destiny and has the sole responsibility for the actual life. Therefore why should we lay the burden on God who is so innocent, pure and simply a witness?
God does not interfere with our lives. He is not an intruder and is the most liberal of beings. He is patiently waiting for us to return back home. He is never annoyed or angry at our behaviour. After all, the Lord who is an Ocean of bliss and energy is not endowed with limited human qualities to judge us. It is an escapist attitude to lay the burden of destiny on God while we are its maker. Being responsible for our suffering and joy, we can, if we wish, mould our lives according to our desires. However, that much should be said that life is an opportunity to taste Divinity. We can, if we ardently desire, free ourselves from the chain of action and reaction to attain union with the Supreme from where we originate. For this purpose, God has given teachings through His innumerable incarnations and mystics, which will help us to that end. We simply have to choose.
It is said that when we die, we go somewhere in a lower
dimension of space to be judged. If we are found guilty of a bad life, then we are pushed into hell or if our life was good, we are welcomed in heaven. It is true that after death we pass to higher spheres of life, which are beyond and subtler than the physical dimension. But the above story is wrong. In the subtle dimension of existence, man is brought before his actions as if he was watching a film on the television screen. In light of his actions, his mind urges him in a purgatory state that prepares him for a new birth. Loaded with actions and reactions on Earth, he cannot pursue his journey. Therefore the compassion of Nature allows him to have a deep rest. During that period, the mind washes itself, or unloads itself of the fruits of its actions so that it may pursue a new life with freshness. However, in that dimension of existence, we do not get rid of all reactions of our earthly life, therefore we are born with a stock of karma upon which we have to work. There are new lessons to be learnt or the same lessons are set so that we learn and progress further. By exhausting the stock of past reactions or sins and by not committing more, we slowly and surely free ourselves from the shackles of karma. For that purpose, we are given many lives that represent many opportunities. After all, God loves us. Why should he give us only one opportunity? He is free from worry, so He can wait eternally. But should we
choose to suffer eternally or to mend our way and learn the secret and attain the Ultimate Bliss?
Judge ye not, for everyone is his own judge. And finally, if God does not judge us, who are we to judge others? This much we can do: to help by pointing the right way. Let us not impose, let the others choose. Let them be free to choose their joy or sorrow. Impositions create fear and guilt. If we cannot help, let us just watch.
