Residents at the remote Wallare Rock Hole Community Alice Springs Australia reports lights in the sky, the hearing of a loud
bang followed by earth tremors at about 7:00pm local time.
Alice Springs Police attempting to investigate the site, have ruled out aircraft activity leading to speculation that the flaring lights that lit up the sky were caused by a meteorite hitting the earth.
The area is still under investigation but so have not found anything. They are now talking to the US Seismic Activity Centre to see if any further clues come to light.
Eye witness accounts of the phenomena reported a spectacular light in the sky. A local from the community store said he had been awed by what he had seen "
started off just a light trail as it passed across the sky and flared into a super brilliant gold and white light, and then looked like it was heading towards the Alice Springs area," he said.
Although much local attention had been brought to the incident, national tv news, newspapers and radio seem to have censured the whole story. There has so far been no apparent national news stories on the incident which leads us to beleive that it had been blacked out to avoid causing public distress and panic.
