Gone are the days when children had to follow in the footsteps of their forefathers. Today,
they can choose the field of their choice and make a career out of it. But aren’t they spoilt for choice with so many new fields as potential careers coming up daily? At this point of time, they need someone to guide them through their decision-making phase.
The other day we had Mr. Sumit Kapoor, a B.Com graduate and an MBA working for “The Times of India”, to counsel us regarding the same at our school. He broke the ice with his friendly nature and wished it to be an interactive session rather than a one-way lecture. He emphasized the importance of education in today’s cut-throat competitive world and highlighted the changing trends, importance of education and the competition nowadays.
Education is no more a choice, it has become a necessity to keep up with the fast paced world. Its importance and use just can’t be ignored. Education plays an important role in the progress of an individual’s mind and country. Ignorance and poverty are major speed-breakers in the swift developing country and can be overcome easily through education. Education is everything. People are made aware of what is going on in the wide world and can understand these issues and take necessary measures. Education tames the astray mind and nurtures its capabilities. We were much enlightened by his words now.
It wasn’t over yet. We played a game in which we were supposed to pass a ball around in the minimum time possible without dropping it and we had the stereotypical approach towards it. He then told us to keep our hands one above the other and drop it as soon as we received it and that indeed reduced the duration. Thus, he gave us a new perspective of looking at things. He went on asking us to take our studies seriously so that we may not repent later in life. He elucidated these facts with
interesting anecdotes.
He explained a how a wrong decision on his part resulted in the expansion of his education span. We must therefore take proper
counselling before making our decisions so that we aren’t left regretting it later. What is in vogue today may lose its scope ten years down the line. So making the right decisions at the right time is important was what he emphasized upon. He answered the questions by some students regarding the choice of career and was thanked with a huge round of applause by all of us.
