Rice-fish integration is one of the most potential technologies which can ensure us food security and it can be fitted in relatively larger area through out the world.. However the area under rice-fish culture is quite poor at present which is mainly due to lack of awareness of the farmers regarding cultivation aspects of rice-fish culture. Keeping this in view, a book entitled "Integrated rice-fish farming" (Published by Water technology Centre for Eastern Region, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Bhubaneswar, India) has been published. This book gives a vivid description about history of rice-fish integration, rice-fish integration in India
and global perspectives. Various case studies were described in brief which will certainly enrich the knowledge of the readers regarding the art and science of rice-fish integration. In addition, the package of practices like preparation of field, selection of seed, optimum time of culture, fertilizer schedule, pest and disease management were explained in an elaborate manner. The topographic modifications like trenches, refuges, ponds etc have aslo been explained in an interesting style which draws the attention of the readers. Moreover, the challenges and prospects of rice-fish culture were also discussed quite logically. If these challenges are addressed successfully, the management strategies can be formulated in an efficient manner.Similarly the impact of rice-fish culture on poverty eradication and employment generation was analysed. Last but not the least, the extension strategies for successful implementation of rice-fish culture were also given due importance. This book is certainly beneficial to the researchers, academecians, students, policy makers, extension agencies and farmers involved in rice-fish farming directly or indirectly.
