Grab ur dream job with the right body language - 1
Body language is a cluster of
non-verbal movements we make when we communicate which constitutes to around 55% of what we are communicating. It is an aggregate of all the non-verbal movements we make, from waving hands to involuntary twitching of facial muscles.
Tips to be followed if you want to get your job.
1. Don't assume that the other people know your name.Say your name.Help them by spelling it as well.
2. Pay attention to time. Be early. Your attitude to time will also send out non-verbal messages.
3. Suppose allowed, pay attention to how you are shaking someone's hand; not too hard or not too soft.
4. Posture : Sit up straight in your chair at the beginning of the interview, with your back against the
back of the chair inorder to show interest. If you slouch or hang sideways in your chair, it might give the impression that you are not that interested in the job. However, you can change your body posture a little during the interview.
5. Hands : Keep arms, legs and feet relaxed and uncrossed. This reveals that you are open and honest.
Folding your arms can be interpreted as a defensive move thus it is better to avoid this. In turn, let your hands lie loosely on your lap or place them on the armrests of your chair. From these positions it's also easy to support your words with hand gestures. Some candidates shuffle their feet against the leg of a table. It irritates the other people. Avoid it.
6. Eye contact : Look at all the interview partners to an equal extent. By looking directly at the other person we give them a sign of trust and get control of the conversation as well.
Apart from paying attention to your own body language, it is also important to see how your interview partners are behaving. The postures and movements of other people can give you an impression of how you are coming across to them. This can serve as a warning at an early stage that you might be doing something wrong that you are not being aware of.
7. Nodding your head while speaking is a good way of supporting your words or adding meaning to them
8. It is also important that you must pay attention to the body Language of your interview partners. The postures and movements of other people can give you an impression of how you are coming across to them.
Eg : Suppose the committee members shake their heads, fold their arms and lean back, you can take this as a sign of displeasure. You will come to know by this that you are doing something wrong that you were not aware of it.
9. Don't show nervousness too much. Many applicants prefer not to let this nervousness show. However the members will understand this. But the peculiar thing here is that your nervousness is an indication that you feel this job is importan you. Actually if you were not nervous and sit amicably, it might indicate that you are not that interested. So do not worry too much about tension.
In conclusion, body language can speak volumes during an interview. It is the most important communication during a job as it reveals the unspoken.
