Every day we hear more and more about the advances in stem cell research. All the media talks of is how our government should
be doing more. I am not against the betterment of science as far as making lives more comfortable in any way. I do not condone some things though.
Recently an Asian country was believed to be dealing in blackmarket stem cells. The way they acheived this was killing of young newborns. Mothers were informed the children had died at birth. Once the doctors and marketers got what they needed, the corpses were turned over to parents for burial.. This is but one example as to how low some persons will go in pursuit of the almighty dollar.
This is but the tip of the iceberg though. Body parts are sold wholesale to the highest bidder daily. Forget waiting lists for kidneys or hearts or lungs. Should one possess sufficient funds he or she can buy these precious organs ahead of everyone else on the list. Sadly there are doctors willing to bend the rules in lieu of financial gain. Once the practice has begun, they find it easier each time. Prosecutors are watching out for this, yet can't be everywhere.
Considering the poor health conditionsin third world
countries, wein the developed countries ought to be thankful for what medical marvels we have. Taking advantage of them and forgetting there are those unable to spend hundreds of thousands reflects how bad the situation has become.
Researchers and doctors need to continue what they are doing as far as looking for cures. Without the efforts of legitimate teams seeking answers we'd not be where we are today. Infant mortality rates would soar. Elderly maladies would crippple an otherwise active section of society. Disease without treatment runs rampart. The HIV virus is but one example. Countless of victims with AIDS has been able to live a full and productive life.
Time has come to straighten out the system. Make all these efforts of good hearted researchers not be wasted by the likes of self serving self centered haves with little disregard for the have nots. What price can be placed on a person needing an organ and not getting it? Whatever it is , it's not enough.
