Book Abstract by: NPCRAO

Original Author: NPCRAO
EASY EXCERCISES FOR BRIGHT EYES Eye exercise are proven method for dealing with vision
problems of near sightedness, aging vision, astigmatism (visual impairment in which part of an image is blurred) and squint. These can be corrective as well as prevented. Numerous exercises are recommended in yoga and included in classical dances like Kathakali and kuchipudi. The Prataka asana in yoga involves staring at the sunrise or a candle without blinking till the eyes water, is known to sharpen eyesight. PRELIMINARY EXERCISESSit with spine erect, hands on knees. The body should remain motionless. Move your eye balls to the far right and then left. Repeat the exercise four times. Blink quickly few times. Move your eye balls up as far as you can and then down. Use your finger at eye level to focus if required. Repeat the exercise four times. Blink quickly few times. See the right corner of your eyes when you raise them, then see the left corner of the eyes when you lower them, half closing the lids. Blink several times. Repeat exercise three in reverse. First look to the left corner up, then to the right corner down. Repeat four times. Blink several times. After three-four days of preliminary exercises Clock rotation: Roll your eyes clockwise, begin by focusing on the floor, then moving slowly from left to the ceiling. Then lower down from right, back to the floor. Repeat the same exercise anti-clock wise. Blink. This exercise strengthens the extra-ocular muscles that play an important role in the accommodation of the eye and provides clear vision. Close to far: Focus on the tip of your finger or pencil. Place it under the tip of your nose; start moving it away, without raising it, as far as possible. Then raise your eyes a little and focus straight into distance at any far away object. Now look back to the pencil tip and again shift to the distant point. Repeat several times and blink after finishing. This exercise is especially useful for the patients with convergence insufficiency. Tight shut: Close your eyes as tightly as possible. Squeezing the eyes make the eye muscles contract and soothes them after the strain of eye exercise. This also exercises the muscles of the face. Palming: It is a wonderful relaxation technique for the eyes and also has a relaxing effect on the nervous system. It is a perfect way to end the eye exercise schedule. Briskly rub your palms together and place them over your closed eyes. Only apply pressure around the eye socket. The elbows should rest on some support (table or knees). Palming should be accompanied by deep breathing. Do it for half a minute and then gradually increase as required. Open the eyes slowly and you will feel fresh and energetic.
