MenopauseMenopause is an important time, which makes the end of fertile period in a women life. It is a normal step in process of aging. At the time of menopause her body undergoes changes that can affect her social life, here feeling and her functions at work.The menopause usually happens between 40 to 50 years of age. It is where the menstrual cycle ends. Periods can become irregular & often heavier for a time before they cease all together.Reason / cause of menopause-At the menopause, the level of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), the hormone oestrogen & progesterone falls. The function of these hormones is to control the menstrual cycle by stimulating the ovaries & to produce eggs.As the levels of FSH, oestrogen & progesterone falls, the ovaries stop producing eggs, and the menstrual activity decreased and eventually ceases.Sign and symptoms of menopause-At menopause every woman’s period will stop but not all women will experience other symptoms. It is noticed that women who lack calcium-enriched diet normally report few menopausal symptoms than others –a. Hot flushes- As oestrogen level drops, blood vessels may expand rapidly, causing skin temperature to rise. This can lead to feeling of warmth. This lasts from 30 seconds to several minutes.b. Sleep disturbances & night sweats – night sweats are often a consequence of hot flushes.c. Vaginal and urinary changes – As oestrogen level declines, the tissues lining vagina & urethra becomes dues, thinner & less elastic with reduced lubrication one may experience burning and itching with increased risk of infections.d. Emotional changes- One may experience irritability, fatigue, decreased memory, and diminished concentration as one approaches menopause. This is due to hormonal fluctuation, but other factors like sleep deprivation & stressful life events are also responsible for emotional changes.e.
Osteoporosis & Heart disease- these are two common problems that can to happen at menopause and one might not even notice it. Changes in estrogen level may be the part of cause. - Self Management-A- Diet-1)Adding soy to diet can relieve many symptoms related to menopause. 2) Foods rich in phytoestrogen (plant estrogen) should be taken which includes, tofu, plums, grapes, strawberries, and citrus fruits.B- For hot flushes-1) drink a glass of cold water or juice at the onset of a flush. 2) Use cotton sheets, lingerie & clothing which lets the skin breathe.C- For osteoporosis-Women may protect themselves from severe bone loss by 1) Maintaining a balanced diet rich in calcium 2) Performing regular weight bearing exercise like walking.-Homoeopathy for Menopause-a) In some women hormonal replacement therapy agrees but in many it do not.
