This book provides comprehensive coverage of vehicle dynamics and includes details on the basic mechanics governing the vehicle performance and familiarizes the readers with analytical methods and terminology. It contains details on acceleration performance, braking performance, aerodynamics & rolling resistance, ride, steady state cornering,suspensions,steering systems,rollover and tires.
The author himself is a reseach scientist at the university of Michigan Transportation Research Institute has taught courses on vehicle dynamics and automotive engineering at the University of Michigan and the contents of this book reflect his vast teaching experience.
As an automotive test engineer, I was able to use this book to design some of the automotive tests for data generation and found this book to be very useful in this regard. The tests carried out on various vehicles on the highway were meaningful by using the contents of this book.
However, I feel that this book could have also included some real case studies on the vehicle tests as the contents more or less provide meanings for an academic reseach and seems to be written & meant for technical studies & exams.
Inclusion of some real test data as examples along with the analytical methodology will certainly be very useful to the readers.
However, I have found it to be the best book on vehicle dynamics. I strongly recommend it to the automotive engineers who would like to generate data using the various analytical methodologies.
