Nikola Tesla,a genious scientist, the founder of electricity,was born in Lika(former Yugoslavia) in 1856. He attended secondary
school in his home land and studied techical science in Graz nad Prague. He started working as an engineer with the Telephone Company in Budapest, then with the Edison Company in Paris and New York. He founded his own laboratory in New York, where he remained to live until his death. He took American citinzenship in 1884. but maintained contact with his people. The essence of his scientific success was in discovering the secrets of Nature. He thought she bestowed upon privilaged men a special missionary gift.His discovery called for alienation from everyday life in oreder to acheave the supreme contrentracion.But, he also was a humane, friendly person, very fond of birds, especially white pidgeons, missionaries of peace, like himself.Tesla invented the system of alternating
currents for the transfer of electric energy.He patented the
induction motor, the rotating magnetic field, dynamo, transformer of currents of very high frequency, the last mentioned now used mostly for medical purposes. Tesla can be considered one of the pioneers in radio technology.He constructed the system of wireless remote control and discovered hte system of lightning by means of electric arc. In his honor a unit of magnetic induction is called: Tesla.Tesla equals one weber per square meter.
