Some veterinary students end up in labs where they begin making
healthy animals sick. For instance, taking healthy young
beagles and surgically giving them arterial blockage to simulate heart disease. Then planting a pacemaker inside to study the effects. Thousands of rats, chimps, and every animal in between are made sick, studied, and killed as humanely as possible. The studies do, of course, save human lives, and our society has decided that the cost is worth the benefit. Many of the workers on the field are not so certain about whether intentionally killing
animals for the greater good is worth it.
