It is not the question of being bestowed with nature’s bounty alone that makes their lives special. The system, occupation, practices, traditional beliefs and the tendency to mingle besides unfettered desire for hard work and many more factors play a vital role in influencing their lives.
Mentality
If we were to take a look on their way of living it will be evident that they care least for money and riches. This holds well in spite of the modern materialistic attitudes that dominate the attitudes and actions of a majority of human being. On the contrary these folk are not keen on accumulating treasures and depositing the same in the available saving schemes. They make money spend all that they have and search greater pastures for happiness in life. These cycles goes uninterrupted. Needless to say they rely on multiplying happiness throught life.
Trade
It is interesting to know that revenues from fishing and allied areas remain the sole breadwinner despite the fluctuations in trade and the
government’s policy. They are so committed and dedicated to the profession and even show reluctance to take up a job in government sector or private sector. According to sources the income generated by fishing is quite adequate and even exceeds the remuneration from a decent government / private job.
Idol
Sea is their only common deity for worship. This source remains a constant source of inspiration and respects despite the odds .They never show a trace of fury even if there is a pinching in monetary profits. The sea takes care of them, feeds and protect in all occasions. Hence there is no one wonder that it remains as goddess.
Black Sunday
But what happened to this category of people and a vast majority of mankind on the 26 th of December 2004 is anybody’s wild guess. The manner in which the giant Tsunami waves struck them remains about the favorite verse in Shakespeare’s Machbeth “I have given suck, and know how tender is to love the babe that milks me. I ould while it was smiling in my face, have plucked my nipple from its boneless gums, and dash’d the brains out, had I so sworn as you had done to this”.

affected by the tragedy. It is attempt to point out the gravity and the manner in which the catastrophe has affected their living.

The origin of the word tsunami tells that it means “harbor wave” (Tsu stands for harbor and nami stands for wave).In fact it would it is astonishing to know that harbor waves can be so dangerous given the literal meaning. However scientific and technical information prove otherwise.

Words cannot explain the magnitude of disaster that has almost struck the entire globe into a state of shock. Infact earlier tsunami instances have witnessed severe and mild disasters. This trauma has thrown many questions on the so called advancement in science and technology .It is really pity to note that this reality beckons the attention and research only after traumas.
Need of the hour
An analysis of the victims affected by tsunami has shown that people are in need of moral support than finance or property.Unfortuanetely this was not carried out properly. Instead funds were constantly flushed and this only added fuel to the fire. The competency and maturity required to deal with the crisis was always missing. Loss of loved ones is an emotional factor and no amount of monetary compensation will hold good to overcome that. Counselingis only a tool to assist the victims and not the ultimate solution itself.
Phobia
Reports reveal that survivors of Tsunami hesitate to visit sea for ever. They have developed an uncanny fear towards their own goddess. This will vanish over a period of time but still deserves attention. Instead of performing these tasks people were going behind only to distribute money and relief materials.
It is not to be denied that they are not needed. They are undoubtedly essential but they are not meant to meet everything.
At Fault
This only shows that we fail to understand the inner feelings of fellow human beings. The most disturbing factor in this whole episode is misappropriation, misallocation and misuse of resources. This has to be shunned as it degrades the basic values of human beings. If one were to compare them with animals it is for sure that they would not definitely exhibit such a behavior especially when helping hands are required in these times.
