the designer..This paper shall be of use to designer especially while designing the large size radial gate.Skin plate of such gate is designed as a flat plate supported by horizontal stiffeners in place of vertical stiffeners Such provision will reduce cost of fabrication by 15%. Trunnion assembly of large size gate should have Trunnion hub with sufficiently long limbs. Limbs of Trunnion hub should be of unequal lengths to facilitate joining of radial arms of gate with it Anchorages Assembly of large gates should be preferably of POST-TENSIONED type.
INDEPENDENT-ANCHORAGE type is also provided in developing countries being simple,independent,lighter in weight and manageable in size. For
hoisting large size radial gate Hydraulic hoist of large capacity is preferred but mechanical hoist with downstream hoisting arrangement can also be designed to save the cost of hoisting and maintenance.
