Taiwan has a limited land
resources where flat land area counts for only one fourth of the total land area. Due to the population
increase and economic growth, the urbanization movement has expanded to slope land and even mountain side development. From nature geology point of view 4 the land of Taiwan consists of short run -off path and high peak flow because of dramastic surface relief and huge amount of precipitation. which two or three events of typhoon would bring into. There is a conflict between slopeland
resources development and preservation especilly at watershed area.Shut-li River watershed locates at the center of Taiwan consists the area of 7400 hectare.Three reservoivs with power plants, one amendment ponds, and a tourist attraction sites were also inside this watershed. Climate condition and deep soil are Suitable for cash crop growth in the watershed area. Banboo and Pinang(Areca cutechu L.) has been developed as the major vegetations alo ng this slope land where were restricted as preserved area and caused concern about soil erosion and fertilizer pollution problem. This study used Geographic Information System (GIS ) technique to collect watershed database and to combine with satellite image classification for land use suitability analysis. This results can then link with other hydrology and socio -economic model to develop an integrated watershed land use
monitoring strategy for better decision making and for resources sustainability.
