Based on the situation of heat resources were enough for one crop but insufficient for two crops per annum in the semi
arid areas of South Ningxia,an experiment on the multiple cropping patterns with high efficiency has been conducted in the irrigated farmland by using intercropping. The results showed that by adopting vertical compound planting,the farmland productivity and land utilization ratio can be increased, the use efficiency of agricultural resources involving sunlight, heat and water were improved ,the energy output from agricultural system increased, and the economic income per land area were increased effectively.Through grey relation analysis, this paper maked a
comprehensive evaluation on the productive benefit of 5 intercropping patterns and 2 sole cropping patterns. According to their comprehensive benefit, these patterns can be put in the following order: potato‖corn>wheat/corn>pea/corn>flax/beet>corn>pea/sunflower>wheat. Furthermore,the rational application of different multiple cropping patterns were also discussed in the paper.
