This study investigated influence of
cow manure on composting of
passion fruit marc waste, and characterized the final composts.Four
compost piles were made with 10/0,9/1,8/2 and 7/3 ratio of fruit waste and
cow manure. The dynamic changes of temperature,pH,C/N ratio,water-soluble NH-N and water-soluble NO-N contents in compost system and the compost quality was discussed. The results showed that the compost with fruit marc of passion fruit only, decomposed slowly.Adding cow manure accelerated the decomposing process, such as shortened the time of reaching high temperature, extended high temperature sustaining time, reduced compost C/N,and accelerated transforming NH-N to NO-N.The time for reaching high temperature stage reduced from 10 d without cow manure treatment(10/0 ratio)to 9~6 days by adding cow manure(9/1~7/3 ratio),the high temperature persisted for 4 days to 7~12 days, and the NO-N content at maturity increased from 358.8 mg·kg-1 to 513.3~639.1 mg·kg-1.Adding cow manure to
passion fruit marc compost also increased the contents of total-N,total-P,total-K,total porosity and water-holding porosity, decreased the bulk density and improved the compost quality. And mixing 80% fruit waste with 20% cow manure is optimum.
