Urea was treated with tung oil as a coating material, forming coated-released-fertilizer in our lab. We tested release of nutrient from the coated urea with various solidifying periods at a growing tobacco using a pot experiment. The soil in the pot was kept at temperature of 15 ℃~22 ℃and humidity of 37%, respectively. The times of measurement for rates of nutrient released from the coated urea were done in July 2003 and April 2004, respectively. Theresults showed that the nutrient released from the ncoated urea initially was 12.6%in July 2003 and 0%in April 2004. According to imitation curve of growth of LOGISTIC, the biggest released nutrient from the coated urea accounted for98.8%after the first determination in July 2003, while in April 2004 was 98.4%. The period of nutrient released was 41.8 days with the rate of releasing 0.11 days for the urea with 3 month solidifying period; while 218.5 days with therate of 0.021 days for that with 12 month solidifying period. It may be concluded that the urea coated with tung oil as coating material can have beneficial properties for both agronomy and environment, as controlled release of nutrients form the urea can not only prevent applied fertilizer from pollution on aquatic system, but also enhance efficiency of the fertilizer.
