I am an ardent lover of
gardening. Since childhood days, I used to be with my grand father and he has taught me the
nuances of the horticulture. It is a well known fact that in our country, our
population occupies 16% of world population. The number of rainy days is also decreasing, making the onset and withdrawal of the monsoon unpredictable. I profess that I am not an idealist person, yet I had strong feel and zeal that something can be done to mitigate a modicum of emission of CO2. First of all I had to motivate localities of our colony. So whenever there were some celebrations or parties, I gifted plant saplings to them and suggest them to grow plants. I cited about the birth tax in Australia where the government had declared that the parents have to pay that tax for the lifetime CO2 emission of the new born baby. I quoted this example to emphasize that the number of trees should coincide with the number of family members in a locality. Our house became a paradigm for everybody in the locality. The lush green numerous trees of coconut, guava, teak, banana, gulmohar, and few other flowering plants circumscribed our house. I did my utmost to make my locality serene and evergreen. Now our colony looks really green. Now it gave me a solace and satisfaction that I had done something to the society and myself as well.
