The disaster of the market hall was
the result of errors made in the course of all the stages of the process of
investments as well as during its utilization. The report presents those errors
witch could be discovered in the course of supervising the demolition of the
hall and the preparation of the expertise for the General Office of Building
Control <1>. These errors concerned structural configuration of the hall, the
way of its foundation, which did not take fully into account the existing
conditions of the soil exposed to the effects mining acticities, and also the
steel construction during the designing, the execution and assembly of the
hall. Errors have been discovered also in the way of draining and the shape of roof
permitting the accumulation of snow and ice, as well as remissness after the
failures in January 2002 and inadequate removal of snow from the roof. Some of
these errors were the direct cause of the catastrophy, others influenced its
wide extent and its short duration.
