At
present the mineral asphaltic mixes are made with use of mineral aggregates. In
this respect the cinder siderurgical aggregates are used in limited amount.
Thus it is necessary to estimate the influence of aggregates made of siderurgical
slag on the physical and mechanical properties of the mineral asphaltic mixes.
There were prepared asphaltic concrete and SMA mixes designed for the wearing
course loaded with heavy road traffic. The mixes tested contained cinder
aggregate, the comparative mixes included basalt and quartzite aggregates.
According to the Polish standard PN-S-96025 as well as basing on the ZW – SMA
95 principles published by the IBDM (Roads and Bridges Research Institute) the
basic physical and mechanical parameters of the mixes tested were described.
Using the methodology of the Finnish standards PANK and the American standard
AASHTO the asphaltic concrete and SMA resistances to the destructive effect of
water and low temperatures were defined as well. The favourable results of the
laboratory tests of the mineral asphaltic mixes containing the cinder aggregate
recommend this type of aggregate to the further complex research.
