Milk does a body good --
even when worn
We have
used synthetic fabric since a long time. The use of cotton has been replaced by
many other materials in the world; but all those are not as soothing to wear as
of cotton. Natural fabric other than silk and cotton is rare, and in this
circumstance a new fabric from an edible natural material is definitely
interesting.
Anke Domaske,
a biochemist as well as a fashion designer, has created a new fabric from milk.
The most appreciating part of her invention is that she made the fabric totally
from milk, which shows the potential of natural elements on this earth. At the
age of 28 Domaske has excited the garment fraternity without doubt. She has
used her creation to make garments from the milk fabric, which she has given
the name Qmilch. Qmilch is the German word for milk; hence the name is
appropriate for her new fabric. So far she has kept the use of this fabric to
her own design creation, but she is contemplating to go for mass production
next year. For mass production she won’t have any financial problem since many
existing companies have shown interest in the new fabric.
The Textile
Research Association of Germany has conferred the innovation award to Domaske
for this revolutionary creation. Domaske’s fabric not only environment
friendly; it also has shiny look of silk, and can be washed just like cotton
fabrics. Klaus Jansen, the chief of Textile Research Association, is
appreciative of Anke’s innovative ideas and expressed his desire to find more
new products from unthinkable materials. The person who first cut and stitched
this new fabric is Tatjana Berthold, a seamstress working for Anke Domaske. According
to her, this fabric is indeed different, and she utilized all the scraps for a
pair of pajamas for herself.
