TAKING A CLUE FOR FORENSICS AND CRIMINOLOGY
What is Forensics and
Criminology?
It is a multidisciplinary branch of
study that deals with the application of a broad spectrum of sciences to
unearth answers in the legal system – both criminal and civil. It involves
scientific analysis and evaluation of scientific evidence like fingerprints,
documents, etc, to aid the process of justice delivery.
Forensic
experts are crucial to the system as there are numerous cases pending in the
Indian High Courts alone. The country has about 5000 forensic experts who are
woefully inadequate. The numbers required are far higher given the scale of
work to be done. There are numerous courses on offer which throw open many job
opportunities in multiple fields. Since the course is multidisciplinary, there
are no standard eligibility criteria for admission.

Cyber Forensics is a fast emerging field because of the
large-scale corporate frauds that are taking place. MNC’s are recruiting
professionals with such backgrounds. Professionals with a Criminology
background are even preferred in the Deputy Superintendent of Police selection
process. Many NGO’s also require forensic professionals and they are paying
them handsome salaries.
