An Idea of a New Anatomy of the Brain

Book Abstract by: Gokul

Original Author: Bell, C.
Of course, this publication belongs to 1811 containing the information about the physiology of nervous system, that’s the
fundamental basis for most of the idea that we have about the nervous system at present. This invention is worth rewarding as it was done when the field is in its juvenile stage. I would say that the invention of remedies to most of the neuro problems would’ve not been possible if this invention was not made. Nowadays it becomes very easy to speculate schematic information with the advent of the advancements we have in the instrumentation and Bio-informatics facility, but it require some in born intelligence to identify the clues of the biological mystery.
Sir Charles Bell is one such person in the field of Anatomy. He was born at Edinburgh in November 1774 and he was the youngest among his brothers who were also anatomists. Finishing his high schooling, he took the profession of the medicine and dedicated his life to the study of anatomy. As he had his brothers in his same field of study he was able to get certain important information and clarifications from his brothers, so that he had some chance to enrich his knowledge in the field.
C. Bell was able to prove his interest and devotion in the field by publishing a guide for the practical anatomy to the students of the Anatomy in the year 1798 its worth noting that by the time he published this guide he was still a pupil doing his course in his college. The guide covered a vast area of anatomical interests such as ‘system of dissection, the details about the anatomy of the human body, the way to display the anatomical parts of the body, and their differences during the disease infection.’ This guide remained as the best source for the anatomical research for many years.
Later in the year 1802, he started publishing the paintings of brain, engravings of the original drawings, which shows the anatomy of brain and nervous system. Also published the third volume of ‘the anatomy of human body.’ Through a series of investigation the author was able to investigate about the details of nervous supply of muscles, which lead him to create new discoveries in the field physiology of nervous system. This paved the path to write the book ‘New Idea of the anatomy of the Brain,’ which contains the details about the functions of the nerves and the corresponding part of the brain to which the nerve is originally connected, etc. in that presentation he has given the detailed structure of various types of nerves which are the basis for the modern neuro-physiology studies.
