ABSTRACTA genetic study was carried out to identify
genotypes of cowpea
studied. In level of plant were studied time to initial flowering, maturity, hypocotyl length, epicotyl length, principal branch length, number of nodes on principal branch, number of lateral branches, number of nodes of lateral branches, angle of insertion of the first lateral branch. In level of plot were studied harvest point; lodging and seed yield. The treatments effects were significant to majority of the characters, exception of hypocotyl length and angle of insertion of the first lateral branch. This results indicated that there is the possibility to genetic gain with
selection in these characters. The earliest genotypes respectively were IT82D-889, AU94-MOB-816, IT82D-60, IT82E-49, IT82G-9 and MNC00-544-14-1-2. The genotypes with the best plant architecture were IT82G-9, IT82D-889 and AU-94-MOB-816. The highest yield was expressed by the genotype TVX5058-0C-02 (2.029,84 Kg.ha-1), which had no difference of the others genotypes by the Scott-Knott test. This genotype was followed by the genotypes TE97-418-07-1 (1,587.9 kg.ha-1), UCR-95-701 (1,576.5 kg.ha-1), MNC00-544D-10-1-2-2 (1,548.6 kg.ha-1) and IT93K-93-10 (1,509.2576.5 kg.ha-1).
Key words: Cowpea, genetic variability, heritability, selection.
