diagnostics are tools used for both diagnosis and prognosis of a disease or condition. There are many diagnostic techniques and procedures, which have been traditionally in vogue for quite some time.
The latest one, which has been progressively moved into the realms of diagnostics, is molecular diagnostics.
The use of molecular based diagnostics is exponentially expanding for detection and monitoring of a number of diseases. The remarkable aspect of the potential of molecular diagnostics is its potential of determining of a patient susceptibility to a particular disease.
The determination about predisposition of a disease, which was unthinkable, a decade ago, is becoming reality with the advent of molecular diagnostics in this millennium.
The
products based on these technologies enjoy increased sensitivity and specificity over traditional tests. It has become vital component of disease prevention, management and treatment.
The refinement and perfection in molecular based diagnostics are adding many innovative and high-tech products and testing solutions. New developments such as gene sequencing and nucleic acid amplification have revolutionized the diagnostics. The scope of its use is in almost every disease from AIDS to Cancer to Malaria to Tuberculosis and a number of infectious diseases.
An imperative for the diagnostic industry is to provide dependable, easy-to-use and
cost effective products for the early detection and
treatment of potentially devastating
diseases by developing effective diagnostics that help transform these life threatening diseases into manageable condition.
It can be envisioned, that in the next a few years time, the laboratories will be routinely exploiting knowledge from human genome project and new molecular tests will become part of the routine landscape for the laboratories helping healthcare providers and patients to make better-informed personalized decisions. And will open new vistas of quality and cost effective healthcare delivery.
