Science of measurement is gaining importance, since modern development in the field of physics, material science and nanotechnologies is doing a great deal in industrial quality control and research and development. It is therefore desperately needed to stimulate the application of measuring techniques applicable to the industrial and scientific issues in the country. In this regard first step would be to develop maximum aspects of physical standards, chemical metrology, and characterization of modern material and of course standardization of nanotechnology materials. In the world of global economy and trading environment national infrastructure to ensure validity of chemical measurement result is desperately required to be created. It is proposed that a centre for metrology comprising of the disciplines such as realization of primary measurement standards, characterization of modern hi-tech materials (such as single crystal) production of certified reference materials, development of primary methods and standardization of nanotechnology materials is established in the country to cater for need of the locals as well as for international interaction, for maintaining a level of harmonized measurement system.
