How Beautifully Blue the Sky!...
Ok. And Now the
Weather. Although this is a touchy subject right now as it is starting to do more and more weirder things. Mind you it probably feels that it is about time it joined Us!
There is something Awfully British about sitting on a London Bus and passing not just the time of day but the current climate to your neighbour. This is some old dear who is basically waiting for the Reaper to collect. But she doesn’t mind for a moment discussing This topic just once more as it allows her slightly further up the judgement ladder in Heaven.
And right then, the Heavens open. I remember once seeing
rain in Canada that defied all belief. It was the sort of Rain that allowed you the vision comparable to the original smog of London in the 1950s. This was Serious Rain. And then I discovered that you can get it just as well in Penge. Well, maybe, not Exactly the same; but a sense of deluge
pretty Similar!
And of
course the next mention is the Forecast. Now technology has Definitely allowed for more
accurate forecasts in about the last 30 years or so. Of course there was a point when you dressed up precisely for what they Didn’t say except if it was Saturday. If it Was the weekend then you dressed Exactly as they suggested. But that excluded Easter, of course!
But now you get a sort of vaguely sexy looking woman at about XX:57 and XX:27 on BBC News 24 who seems to have a pretty
good idea of what might happen. But this is only because her computer actually let her Log On over the previous few hours or so. And even though she Is being more accurate, the Technical burps are far more spectacular. Look for the massive Cross-hairs over the map. Or the moment when the whole screen goes Blue. Really!
Enough of forecasters. They’re just trying to do their Job. How about extremes of weather? This is more exciting. Ask New Orleans. Or Banda Ajeh. Those guys will tell you. Sometimes Nature reminds us that she started the game at least 10 times before We did. Probably more like 1,000! And after all it makes for such good Global Entertainment now!
And if it’s not coming out of the sky or the Sea then it is about to jump straight out of the Ground! Ask this in San Francisco or around the Islands of Fiji. There are times when the power of this Planet intends not just to Laugh at us but positively rock around Howling!
But no contribution of this would be complete without a mention of those people who attempt to defend us from all this (actually, I suppose, Forecasters included). When you go to lost property at Victoria you can see Umbrellas nowadays that are awesome in design. Or some of the overcoat technology you get today. This is pretty amazing for All seasons. Or some of the ways of defending excessive heat now. And that leads us to the real question. How are us guys now messing the whole balance up? Are we leaving one disaster after another for them?
This should be the subject of another entire work. But suffice to say that we are treading one terrible one-way street with Us and that System of this Planet. I Hope that everyone who can and should accept part of this Does! If we are going to do nothing then God help Us indeed!!
In the end, though, you get what you pay for. And at least that soaking umbrella was revenge on the Dog. Weather will last forever.. Will We Outlast It?? Time shall tell.. Tim N. 07/06.
