More on the effects of global
warming.An Alaskan island is losing
ground.Kivalina,Alaska,
workers there have been piling 2500 lb sandbags
to protect the seawall from further erosion.Ever since it's
construction in 2006,construction workers have been repairing the wall
practically every day.It seems the more
sand they bring ,the more the
ocean takes away.Kavalina island is slowly
disappearing,the victim of
eroision due to the effects of global warming. In the early 70's the
water would freeze like the substance of mashed potatoes. Now it is
iceless leaving the beach subject to waves which are slowly taking the
island back into the ocean. The island is home to 400 people who now are
wondering where to go.As one resident said "Kivalina is nothing but
fine sand,"
