Stories in Rocks

Book Review by: CatherineGallagher

Original Author: Henry Lionel Williams (writer and illustrator)
This is a very simple exposition of the history of life on earth, and how Earth came to be hospitable to life, as told in
the rocks of the Earth itself. The LITHOSPHERE is the primary concern of the author, that is, the earth beneath our feet. The language is simple; the principles are profound. His explanations are simple and easy enough for a child to understand, yet thorough and profound enough to serve as
a good supplement to, or introduction for, a beginning college level geology course. The section on the process of the formation of sedimentary rocks, and their metamorphic transformations, is especially
outstanding. There is also an excellent glossary at the end of the book which explains, as much as it defines, each term.
You do NOT need to have any previous training or background in the sciences in general, or geology in particular, to read and enjoy, as well as to profit from, this book. If you do have that, you will only
appreciate this book the more.
