Cristal Palace APA Petropolis:Crossroads of Civilization and Nature

Academic Paper Summary by: ligiaa

Original Author: Lígia Correa de Albuquerque
Consumer society created an accelerated life rithym. This lifestile happens amidst long surfaces, which concrete and asphalt
make impermeable to water. Hence, natural water cicle becomes unbalanced. Water turns scarce, and polluted with the most varied materials, creatively employed by human being. These materials accumulate in the ecosystem. Their recycling, normally made by mother-nature, becomes difficult due to the speed of consumming, or rather, of disposal of every type of substances. Technology by-products menace the biosphere, and thence, menace the survival of the human species itself. One of the major grievances, though, is the everexpanding agroindustry, supplyier of food for men and animals. Inadequate management of soil, and the huge amount of chemicals added, polute soil, water, and air. The Conservation Units were created in the search for an equilibrium between civilization and nature. In the midst of the Petrópolis Environmental Protection Area,   EPA, is the Crystal Palace, created in order to receive horticulture exhibitions. This iron structured pavilion, with its crystal pannels, was fabricated in France, and assembled in Brasil, in 1884. Thence, this Country went into the modern technology world. Nowadays, with Petrópolis urban growth, the authorities seek for means to reduce river pollution. The Crystal Palace itself receives the addition of a biosystem, for waste treatment, and reduction of the pollution flowing into Piabanha river.  The biosystems established in the Petrópolis EPA are considered in this paper. These consist of waste treatment, and the production of cooking gas, and of natural fertilizers, side by side with the water pollution reduction. Organic agriculture associated with this process favors the production of plants, fish, and birds, in a sustainable way.
