Snowfall in Southampton!

Article Summary   by:SM THOMPSON     Original Author: SM Thompson

We all woke to a winter wonderland a white snowscape and the roof tops were snow clad and the streets like something out of an Austrian Ski Village Postcard but so far BBC Radio Solent are dealing with the Snowfall as a disaster as Gatwick Airport on the South Downs is closed and Southampton Airport remains closed until the afternoon.  The buses in Hampshire will run on Main Streets only and will divert from side roads.  The passengers for flights outward bound here in Southampton are advised to call in their emergency helpline to get further information.  So the BBC Radio Solent Team are reporting a record in snowfall in over 100 years and several weeks ago the snowfall was the worst since 1965!
The weather has been pretty bad in Southampton and only the other day we were all thankful that this far South we were escaping most of the Scottish Snows or Northern Ireland snowfall or Northern England but it looks now that we are also embracing the coldest snowfall on record and one of the coldest Decembers and I suppose we will have to grin and bear it but BBC Radio Solent wonder should we plan a future like Europe of Snowploughs and all of that criteria for the future or is it just a drop in the Ocean a One Off .. will keep you posted ... as I look out from my balcony window the sunshine is slowly melting the snowfall from off the ground beneath!
