Flooding in the Uk

Article Summary   by:SM THOMPSON

The weather has been top of the pops as far as topics of conversation in TEFL class is concerned;
for example when using a text book the favourite page is the section on the Weather. Whereever I am
this topic of conversation is featured as an absolute must.

The symbols of the weather are printed in large symbolic shapes and bold print - take, for example,

RAIN: An umbrella is what you must carry in order to deal with rainy weather:
Sunshine: A sun hat please pack to protect against strong sunshine

and so on!

But recently we have had floods and severe flood warnings on the Media and in the Press about
driving, walking and living in flooded areas of Britain.

The pictures in the Press are horrific and there are people who have lost their lives and have
been swept away by the severe floods particularly in the North of England.

In fact, its possible even so to catch a glimpse of flash flooding as the pavements and footpaths
have pools of soggy water lying overnight and its possible to get very wet walking in and around
these pools of water; also, the sky has darkened and it looks threatening as those big black
clouds are overhead hanging over the country and we are waiting for more rain.

But as a young man said at the bus stop recently we have had water metred here for sometime and yet the shortage of water has been a major problem; however, rest assured as the BBC Radio 3 newsteam announced
that the Water Ban whatever it was has been lifted and this referred to a hose pipe ban which meant in
dry hot sunny days there was a legal ban against watering your garden because of the water shortage here in
Southampton and the Sunny South! All the remaininf Water Companies and Boards have lifted the Water Ban this morning and the flooding in the UK will continue according to online forecasts on Yahoo News!
