Data collection on Earth surface from space have experienced rapid development in the last decade. Various kind of satellite have been launched to  space to record earth surface continually. They have different capabilities in recording the earth surface according to their characteristics. Based on electromagnetic energy used there are satellite used visible ray sensor and its multispectral, satellite used thermal infrared chanel and satellite used microwave spectrum. This study has an  objective, to review and compare capability of multispectral image and radar image, especially to extract terrain information used in terrain evaluation. The comparison of two images carried out simultaneously with image interpretation and reinterpretation, using comparison table that show clearness, detailedness and accuracy score. The result of comparison of the indicated that for main field parameter, namely, landform and land use, Landsat TM image has advantage of much more information clearness, detailedness and accuracy. Wheareas for other terrain parameter has similar score in both image type. Prominent advantage of ERS-1 image is on relief shape parameter. The difference of quality of landform and land use information affect heavily on terrain information.
