Computer is any machine which can accept data in a prescribe form,process the data and supply the results of the processing in a specified format as information or as signal to control automatically some further machine or processes.

Computer were capable of storing large quantities of information and of processing it quickly.
as more computer were used, it became necessary for computers to communicate each other.Computer sere introduce in the early 1950's

Computer has four basic functions, these are;
1. Input
2. Process
3. Output
4. Storage

Computer is made up of several basic components:

1. System unit
2. Monitor
3. Keyboard
4. Mouse
5. printer

Computer system consist of Hardware and software device

Hardware are the physical and solid components of the computer that you can touch, these are; System Unit, CPU, RAM , Keyboard, Mouse, Scanner, Modem, Monitor, Printer, Speakers, HardDisk Diskette, CDROM, VGA Card, Soundcard, Webcam, Headset, Lan Card, USB and other devices that can connect to the computer.

The System Unit is the processing component of a computer. It is the " Casing " that holds the computer's " Brain ", memory, Diskdrives , and the power supply . Casing categories in two types " Tower " and the " Desktop " type.

The CPU(Central Processing Unit) is called the " Brain " of the computer's. It execute program, instruction, move information from one part to another and make decisions.

RAM (Random Access Memory) where all program can be executed or data. This memory is temporary storage area, that when the computer is off, any program or data stored is lost.

Keyboard is a hardware device used to send data to the computer, instruction and other information.

Mouse is a hardware device used to move the pointer, drag and drop the icon.

Scanner is a hardware device that function like a copier machine. it convert text and graphics image to digital form and store in the computer.

Monitor is a harware device that display text, image, and other informatio known as "screen" and can be classified as "CRT"(Cathode Ray Tube) and "LCD" (Liquid Crystal Diode).

Printer produces paper output in the form of text or image.

Hard Disk (HDD) is a hardware device where the computer store data and information. It is permanent storage area of the computer but can be lost due to reformatting the Disk.

Modem is used to convert Analog to Digital Signal and Digital to Analog Signal to process information via internet. It is popularly known as connectivity of the computer to the internet.

Video Carda device that extend improve the resolution or graphics of the screen and video output of the system unit.

Sound Card is a device in the computer that improve better sound and output sound of the system.

Lan CArd is device in the computer that connect one computer to another and also operate the same with modem.

Speaker is a device that convert soud wave from the computer.

Webcam is a device in the computer that used to view one person to another place via internet.

Removable Device of the Computer:
1. Diskette, CDROM, USB, DVDROM

Others ar; Car Reader, Data Cable, Power Supply, Cooling Fan and more not specified herein.

Software refers absolutely to a set of instruction, called program that tells the hardware what to do. these O/S (operating system) A/S (application software).

Example of O/S; Microsoft Windows (98,2000,millenium,Xp and Vista), Linux (Redhat, Caldera),and Unix.

Example of A/S; Microsoft office 2000, Microsoft office Xp, Adobe, Photoshop, Corel Draw and more.
