TRAFFIC EVALUATION ON A CLIMBING SECTION ON RURAL ROAD

Book Abstract by: buluburung

A good and detail analysis should be
performed to design and generate a
good traffic system. The analysis of traffic flow also should be
performed for operational roads, to determine the existing problems and
finally to generate a solutions about the matter. This research
measures the traffic flows on climbing section, and the percentages of
heavy vehicles. The appearance of heavy vehicle in traffic flows caused
delay and a heavy traffic jam. For this research, data are collected
for heavy vehicle speeds before climbing and on the summit of the
grade, to get differences or speed reductions. All the collected data
will be analyzed with grade specific method, referred to Highway
Capacity Manual (HCM) to determine the capacity and level of service of
the road. The analysis indicates that the percentages of heavy vehicles
on the traffic delayed the flow and created platooning on a climbing
section. A climbing lane is proposed to have a smooth traffic flow.
