The success of a project development not only depends on technician and human resources. The integration among diverse
specialties is crucial. This applies also for the projects of facilities, where multi-activities occur simultaneously. In the following example, we will present the implementation of an
environmental control system. The objective is to prevent that the dust generated for the movement of powder products will not to spread for the environment. In this project the following interfaces are faced:
• Civil project: Existing bases, constructions, land structures, installations;
• Mechanical project: detention of the points where the dust will be generated, installation of the captors for aspiration, supports for the elements of the environmental control system;
• Electric project: Electric power house, substation, circuits of power and control, lightning;
• Project of Fire Prevention and Combat: guiding of tubes, boxes of devices, bomb, temperature sensors and illumination of emergency;
• Automation Project: man-machine interface, supervisory system.
Another important point is to define the final destination for the filtered residues. That is: which will be the methodology for cleanness of the filters and posterior treatment or discarding of the residues.
Lack of the integration – symptoms:
The main problems of the integration lack related to projects of facilities can result in the necessity of reworks and incidental costs, caused by:
• Lack of clear definition of where it starts and where finishes the target of responsibility of the contracted one;
• Errors in the way of the pipes: interference with walls, beams, systems for fire combat, electric installations, etc.;
• Incorrect localization of the equipment, causing overload structures, flagstone, floors and stairs;
• Difficulty of access or, still worse, impossibility of access for the maintenance of parts of the system in the future;
• Demand not supported for the electric substation;
• Systems of control and communication incompatible with project or not adjusted to others systems of the installations;
• Difficulty in the guiding of the electric handles for feeding of engines and panels;
• Interferences of the environmental control system with land installations, necessity of demolitions, openings in walls, floors, etc.
• Lack of logistics coordination for delivery of parts and components, in the necessary sequence for the assemblies;
• Increased project finish.
