Radar lets you see through walls
TECHNOLOGY company Cambridge Consultants has made finding out what’s going on next door easier by developing a hand -held through –the-wall
Radar device called the Prism 200.The device ,
expected to be on the market next year ,provides information on the location and movement to people inside buildings. It is a second-generation system ,with the big change being thee integration of a Video care processor. eliminating the need for an external controller and a man-machine interface. Just hold the unit against a wall or set it up on a tripod up to 2m away, and it transmits ultra-wideband radar pulses that will pass through building materials up to 400mm thick to
detect activity within a range of 15m.The device’s antennas give it a 140 field of vision horizontally and ver4tically with 3D object location and motion tracking To give clear views of movement , the system identifies each person as a cluster of targets of one color on the screen ,The product-expected to be used by emergency and security services- is expected to weigh about 3kg including a lithium –ion battery pack lasting about two hours, and to cost about $30,000 .Cambridge Consultants is using similar technology to develop anti collision systems for cars,
Radar is normally used to detect
flying objects or objects on the sea. Their use even in the modern era is in
aeronautics and sea navigation. They are also used to detect enemy's flying planes and also any unidentified flying objects. But the above innovation is an advancement of the normal use may be one day the technology can be used thro satellites for many useful as wll as spying applications.
