The
paper presents the damage of the chapel. Following the lack of proper
description of the soil conditions
within the former gravel pit, a part of the
building was founded on a layer of excavation backfill consisting of various
geomaterial. Excessive and uneven settlements of the building foundations which
were observed resulted in huge cracks of walls and floor. Having conducted
geotechnical and construction research,
foundation reinforcement, clamps of
wall cracks and thermically tightened bowstrings were designed and executed.
The range and methods of repair proved effective and enabled safe and proper
use of the chapel.
