The
two-track railway bridge has been continuously used for over hundred years. It
is a long, riveted
structure
with 17 spans 34,5m each (see Fig.1). It was
decided that the bridge will be necessary for five years at least. Due to some
design and constructional simplifications the significant damages appeared
presently and were revealed during routine expert investigations. The most
important damages were connected with incorrect provide of girders with
bearings, neglecting of actual displacement influences – particularly due to
temperature – on the stresses in
structure, and rapid changes in the
cross-section of the longitudinal girders. Most of damages were the result of
material fatigue in the local parts of connections. The report presents some
results of analysis and few details of strengthening of damaged parts of the
structure.
