A description of the concrete
bioreactor failure in the sewage-treatment plant Gdansk-Wschod is presented. In
early stage of the bioreactor exploitation some leakages has been observed that
are gradually increased. In order to establish reasons of the failure a
computer model of the bioreactor is worked out using the NASTRAN system. The
bioreactor walls and the bottom plate are modeled by means of the rectangular
plate elements but the interaction of the
structure with the subsoil is taken
into account using the Winkler type elastic foundation and the isolation layer.
The computer model elaborated allows for establishing the reasons of the
bioreactor failure, and it is applied to analysis of a few variants of the
redesign of the structure in order to fulfill its reliability and leak proof.
