The base of this paper was the
example of damage caused by the non-continuous ground
deformations, being
result
of coal excavation. Detached masonry house located in the area of ground
leap has been described. Its short characteristics and cracking view has been
presented in paper. Leap arising caused intensive wall cracking (crack width up
to 10 mm) and whole building inclination reaching 21‰. Additionally, horizontal
strains accompanying non-
continuous deformations caused increasing of crack
width in the lower parts of walls. Supplementary, possibility of building
renovation and protection have been considered, but due to very high costs of
repair works and comparatively small value of the building, project of building
renovation has not been realized.
