Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) is
one of the most commonly used materials for strengthening and repairing of the
concrete structures. Debonding between
Fiber and concrete is a common failure
mode, which is brittle and abrupt. In this paper, it has been shown that adding
the U-
shaped FRP layers in the orthogonal direction to longitudinal FRP,
extended upward to the beam’s web, can improve the
ductile behavior of the
rc beam. A new and effective detailing for providing end-anchorage of FRP is
proposed which easily can be constructed. Flexural behavior of several RC
beams strengthened with the FRP by different arrangement of the U-shaped orthogonal
reinforcing FRP were studied experimentally and the effectiveness of each
arrangement has been verified.
