FE MODELLING OF RESIDUAL STRESSES IN WELDED STEEL JOINTS

Article Abstract by: toffi_75

Original Authors: Stanisław JEMIOŁO; Marcin GAJEWSKI
The
coupled phenomena of phase transformation, transient heat transfer and
elastic-plastic deformation during
welding process of steel joints is
considered. The finite element method software, SYSWELD, is used in the
performed analysis. A description of methodology of modelling of arc welding
process is discussed. The analysis needs data for parameters involved as
thermal properties of each metallurgical phases including their initial
distributions, kinetics of transformation being extracted from CCT and IT
diagrams, welding conditions, etc. The thermo-metallurgical part of analysis is
followed by non-linear elasticplastic one to obtain the residual stresses
field, for example. The mechanical part of calculation needs additional input
data characteristic for each phase as a function of temperature. Results for
some representative problems of steel blanks welding are shown.
