In
this paper a method to estimate the damage localization in a cantilever beam
using the static deflection has
been presented. The crack is detected by the
continuous wavelet transform. The crack localization of cantilever beam is
investigated both experimentally and analytically. The location of the crack is
indicated by a peak in the spatial variation of the transformed response.
Wavelet
detection technique allows crack detection that requires minimal input
data i.e. only structure response is needed. The numerical studies proved high
efficiency of proposed method. The experimental studies showed that the
wavelets could detect signal perturbations caused by a crack, but only in the
case of relatively large cracks. The presence of large noise in response of a
construction limits application of this method. Only a structure response
measured with very high precision guarantees efficiency of the proposed
technique.
