The needs of bridge
rehabilitation and
modernization, including the social aspects, are briefly
characterized.
The harmful factors of various nature leading to deterioration
of concrete and steel bridges are presented. The repair and
rehabilitation techniques applied for concrete and steel bridges are described. The types of
bridge
modernization are synthetically classified. The strengthening methods
are presented in particular, including the most modern techniques such as the
use CFRP strips and fabrics for strengthening of concrete bridges. The
strengthening of steel bridges, including the strengthening of the structural
joints, are presented separately.
