The
enlargement of the European Union leads to a significant increase in freight
and passenger highway traffic
that mostly affects the transit countries Germany
and Poland. Powerful and reliable Infrastructure systems are the requirements
for economic growth, especially since a road network expansion is limited due
to financial and ecological Civil engineering works such as bridges represent a
great economical investment, whose
maintenance highly affects This paper
introduces a decision support tool for bridge maintenance management, which was
developed by the Institute for Construction Management at Darmstadt University
of Technology. The presented tool is based on an
evaluation procedure
determining the urgency of maintenance measures using inspection reports
according to DIN 1076. The urgency is determined by a priority scale for the
existing damages resulting in a structure classification using the parameters
“structure condition and safety” and “structure importance considering the
traffic network”. In addition to the introduced cyclic and continuous
evaluation procedure the decision support tool is incorporated into an existing
catalogue of maintenance measures. The introduced decision support tool allows
a neutral urgency evaluation of bridge maintenance measures.
