It is shown in this paper the
results of the experimental investigation about the shear
strength behaviour of
high-
strength concrete beams submitted to axial compressive stress and about
the design procedures to be adopted for these structural elements. A total
amount of seven beams, with a concrete compressive strength around 85 N/mm2, were analysed. All of them had identical geometry and reinforcement,
longitudinal and transversal. The only variables were the intensity of the
compressive axial load applied and its application point through outs the
beam’s height. The current ACI, CEB-FIP and NBR code equations for predicting
shear capacity of beams subjected to axial compressive stress have shown a
large security margin for the high strength concrete beams tested . Based on
these research’s results an equation is proposed for predicting the ultimate
shear capacity of reinforced concrete beams subjected to axial compressive
stress.
