This paper presents a simple
and computationally efficient analytical model, based on strain compatibility
method,
for evaluating the stress in the
prestressing steel and flexural
capacity of
externally prestressed members at nominal strength. The analysis
considers the reduction in depth of the external tendons at failure load, and
accounts for most of the important parameters that influence the response. The
stresses and moment capacities predicted by the analysis showed very good
agreement with experimental results. A limited parametric study is undertaken
to evaluate the effect of different design variables on the ultimate strength
properties of externally prestressed members.
