The beauty of mathematics

Book Summary   by:ruletheworld     Original Author: Siddharth

Write your abstract here.Perhaps not many are going to view a section on pure mathematics, and perhaps fewer going to read it till the end. All i want to say is about the beauty of mathematics. Of course, mathematics is as abstract as it gets, having little or nothing to do with the outside and real world. It exists, not in the world we live in, but in the world we think in, in the intellect, in the mind, in the rational thinking that verily distinguishes man from beasts. It is even more interesting to note what cauchy had to say about this, when he was asked by a fellow citizen as to why he considers mathematics to be of any sense, as it all starts off as axioms and you can never prove them. All this, he said, was bullshit! Cauchy replied that yes, all that we do is bullshit, but do we really care about it! What he was trying to say is an important value in mathematics. The presence of axioms and the fact that they cannot be proved, only add to the real beauty of this wonderful subject of mathematics.

That was nice, thoughtful and insightful. Are you a mathematics professor, teacher or just a student?
